In Aot, Furlan is a focused individual who, like Isabel, knows when it’s time to have fun and when it’s time to be serious. Furlan is described as calm and cautious, but he doesn’t like things getting out of control. Also, Furlan knew when he was losing and he stopped resisting when he realized he had lost. Furlan trusted Levi a lot and followed his leadership decisions without hesitation.

Furlan was a criminal before the fall of Wall Maria. Furlan once decided to put Levi to the test by fighting a bunch of thugs. He was shocked to see Levi win all the fights. Although Furlan decided to join Levi, he isn’t sure how to convince him.Due to Levi’s strength, Furlan, Levi and Isabel had a solid reputation. The three men became proficient with the Three-Dimensional Maneuvering Team, making it easier for them to run their illegal business. This gave them hope of rising above the daily grind in the city. In addition, Furlan and his companions were eventually captured by Erwin Smith, Exploration Corps. Furlan and Isabel followed Levi to better lives on the surface after he was blackmailed into joining his Corps.
Also, Furlan helped Levi to defeat an excentric titan on his first venture outside the walls. He was clearly nervous and upset by the idea of fighting a titan but he found his courage and morale when he saw Levi charging into battle. He and Isabel managed to cut the knees of the titan, which Levi used to win the last blow.
Levi decided to hunt Erwin the day after the expedition. With the rain at his back, he also completed his original mission. Furlan advised caution, but Levi resisted the urge. She ended up falling and hanging from the back of a titan when she tried to kill him. She is crushed between the titans when a titan spots her. Furlan was able to escape, but Isabel’s death forced him to face the titans. He realized too late that his fall had caused severe damage to his equipment. In addition, Furlan was certain it would end his life, so Flagon Darlett became squad leader and distracted the titan. Furlan then gives orders to retreat.
Also, Furlan watched in horror as Flagon was devoured by the titan. He tried to fight back but was soon grabbed by the titan. He saw Levi as he stood up in the titan’s hand. As he did in the underground streets, he waved his hand to say goodbye. Furlan was gone, and Levi was filled with fury. He cut open Furlan’s stomach to get what little was left. Furlan, however, was already.
After witnessing the deaths of his first two trusted friends, Levi became blindly enraged and killed all the titans. Erwin, who had witnessed the steam from the fallen titans, was on the scene and Levi attacked him. He tried to kill him, accusing him of their deaths. Erwin wondered what might have happened if Levi had stayed behind with his friends and not left them to their fate.

Erwin concluded by saying that the Exploration Corps was mankind’s only hope for freedom and asked Levi to again join them. Levi was happy to accept the invitation.While the Corps members who survived made a complete retreat from the walls while Levi looked at the titanic corpses that would be used as a tomb for Furlan or Isabel, Levi stopped by the ashes of the titans.
