Nichijou Season 2 is set to release on October 15th, 2019. The anime will have 10 episodes and will be directed by Yūsuke Watanabe. The first episode of the season will be released on September 25th. The anime is a sequel to the 2017 series Nichijou which aired for 12 episodes. The new series follows the story of high school students who attend a school that is in the process of being destroyed. The show has been met with mixed reviews but it is still being watched by many people. It has been announced that the second season will have an original story and no references to the first season.

Nichijou, A Quick Recap

Nichijou relates the everyday life of the people of Tokisadame. Three high school students are friends, Yuuko Aoi (the energetic), Mio Naganohara (the bright and cheerful Mio Naganohara) and Mai Minakami (the silent, sad Mai Minakami). It tells the story of three friends, as well as Sakamoto, a talking cat. There are also some characters that live in indirect parallel to these three friends.

Nichijou was a 26-episode anime that aired between April 3 and September 25 2011. It was produced by Lantis (Love Chunibyo & Other Delusions & Bungou Stray Dogs), Kadokawa [Re:Zero –Starting Life In Another World-, & Neon Genesis Evangelion], Rakuonsha (“Naruto Shippuden & Seraph of the End”), and animated by Kyoto Animations. Bandai Entertainment (Attack on Titan) and Funimation (“Fulmetal Alchemist, Brotherhood”) are its licensors.

The anime is based upon a comedy manga series written and illustrated by Keiichi Arawa. It began serialization in December 2006. It was first published in Kadokawa Shoten manga magazine “Shonen Ace”, and later serialized in Comptiq. 

There have been ten volumes of the manga, the tenth being published in Kadokawa Shoten magazine called “Shonen Ace” on December 10, 2015. The companion book was 120 pages and commemorated the tenth anniversary. Arawi also announced that Nichijou would continue serialization in Monthly Shonen Ace magazine on October 20, 2021.

The series is still being serialized, but the producers or studios have not yet made any announcement about Nichijou season 2. Although Nichijou’s anime series ended in 2011, it remains a popular and highly recommended anime series for fans who enjoy light-hearted, funny anime. Fans can still hope for a renewed Nichijou season 2 even though it’s too early to make any conclusions.

Nichijou Season 2 Release Date

There has not been any news or announcement about Nichijou season 2, as mentioned above. There is high possibility that Nichijou season 2, given the manga’s popularity and news about it being serialized again in the future. Fans will need to wait for the continuation of stories that are happening in Tokisadame for the time being.

MyAnimeList has shown that Nichijou has a remarkable rating of 8.46 among more than 250,000 users. It is also ranked in 167 for popular anime. Even though the anime was cancelled in 2011, its popularity continues to this day. This proves that fans and people alike still want Nichijou season 2. It is also ranked 127 on MyAnimeList’s top anime page, which is impressive for an anime that was released only a few years ago. For those who want to rewatch the anime, Nichijou is available via Crunchyroll and other streaming platforms.

Season 2 Cast and Character of Nichijou

Yuuko Aoi, a 16-year-old girl who is also a main character in Nichijou. She strives to make her everyday life more exciting and enjoyable than normal. She is often too lazy to do her homework so she prefers to copy her friends. She greets everyone with “selamat pagi”, which she uses to say “good morning” in Malay and Indonesian.

Sakamoto: Sakamoto is a talking black cat who wears Shinomone Hakase’s red scarf.

Hakase Shinonome, an 8-year-old scientist who loves sharks and created Nano. Because she is already a graduate, she doesn’t attend school and spends most of her time at home.

Mio Naganohara is a bright, cheerful girl with a crush on Kojiro Sahara, her classmate. She is quick-tempered and prone to violence to avoid humiliation.

Nano Shinonome: A one-year-old schoolgirl who was created by Hakase Shinonome as an android. She looks like an average teenager, despite her age.
