About Love of Kill

Based on the ongoing manga , Love of Kill follows a man-woman who kills for a living. Chateau Dankworth is a bounty hunter and Song Ryang–ha is her target. Chateau is also being pursued by Ryang-ha. But not in the manner one would expect from a criminal like him. Chateau seems to be his target, but he doesn’t intend on stabbing him anytime soon. Instead, he gives her gifts in the shape of the people she has to find and eliminate.

Chateau declines Ryang-ha’s advances, but she finds herself in a relationship with him. Later developments show that Ryang’s interest may not be just romantic. The characters’ chemistry is not perfect, but it could be improved in future content.

Is there a second season of Love of Kill?

The series’ producer, Platinum Vision, has not yet confirmed that Love of Kill will be aired a second season. It is too early to know for certain, since most shows renew their series within a few weeks of the end. Love of Kill isn’t the most popular anime of the season so it may not be prioritized. However, stranger things have occurred, and fans of the anime still have hope.

The current manga that the show is based upon has eleven chapters. This suggests there’s plenty of material to go around, but ideally those who work on anime might like to have more, especially considering the show’s pace issues.

Koroshi Ai manga is compared to the anime

The anime adaptation was very faithful to the Love of Kill manga. Director Hideaki Oba clarified why certain comedy special bonus/omake pages were cut due to abrupt tonal shifts in action and comedy.

Oba stated, “It’s one the biggest appeals of manga, so I tried it as much possible. Some of them worked, others didn’t and some we didn’t adopt because it was impossible.” “When I looked at it that way, it seemed more difficult than communicating action in certain respects.”

Another significant change was the substitution of Indian-kun’s name to that of Jim, for whatever reason.

The pacing was the biggest problem. This anime adaptation was slow and dragged out every scene, which is a departure from almost all other anime. This may make manga fans happy, but there were flashbacks and recaps galore that made it annoying (especially if one binge-watched as many episodes as I did).

It is not necessary to elaborate on the plot. There was plenty of source material. There were more than 70 chapters in Japanese when the anime was released. The English Volume 6 contained Chapters 31 to 35.

It would have been more effective if the anime’s story in the earlier episodes moved faster, incorporating more of manga’s comedic beats. The anime had just begun adapting Chapter 31 by Love of Kill Episode 10. This meant that the final three episodes would have to cover two volumes at normal pace.

The main reason for the slow pace was because the anime was basically stalling for time. So the big reveal was scheduled for the finale of the first season. To make the first season feel complete, the audience needed to know the (partial truth) about Chateau and Ryang Ha’s relationship as children and why Ryang Ha killed Seung-Woo, the killer of Chateau’s father. However, these events occurred quite early in the manga series.

Episode 11’s final scene was Volume 7: Chapter 40. This is where Chateau finally remembers her childhood trauma and apologizes. The episode’s end combined elements from Chapters 38-40, so another flashback was required to complete the story.

The tension was intensified by the way Episode 12 juxtaposed Chateau’s flashback with Chateau’s mental breakdown in present. The episode ended with glimpses of future events, such as Donny meeting Mr. Noble or Nikka attacking Jim. These will not happen until Love Of Kill Season 2.

The ending of the first season’s finale Koroshi Ai Episode 12 found a stop point that corresponded to manga Volume 8 Chapter 42. Only the panels focusing on Ryang-Ha or Chateau were fully adapted.

This was a decent ending point, since viewers finally understood Ryang-Ha’s motivations towards Chateau based upon their shared history. The problem with the first season is that it doesn’t resolve the mystery. Instead, audiences are left hanging because there is no resolution to their present circumstances.

Chateau, who was on the roof trying find compensation for Ryang-Ha’s hiring, was an anime original ending. Although it is supposed to suggest that they have each other’s backs now the enemy helicopter has landed, their strange behavior was a very forced misdirection based upon the way they were shooting their guns.

Even though the anime is about a romance between assassins, the romantic progression has barely reached the point where they can trust each other and even fall in love.

Chapter 56 was the best ending point, as the chapters that followed fully explained Chateau Noble’s mystery and completed the Donny Bachmann story. Manga volumes 8-10 were full of action, so it would have been a better ending. Because there is a two-month gap between the story arcs, Chapter 57 would have been the ideal launchpad for Love of Kill Season 2.

To adapt all 56 chapters, the anime production committee would have had to approve a second season. The producers may have considered it too risky. However, not having Love of Kill Part 2 would have hurt the series’ popularity long-term since the story didn’t reach its peak until the end of the first season.

Problem 2: 15 chapters are not enough content to make a second season. This is the perfect length to make a Love of Kill movie. However, it seems unlikely that this will ever happen.

There are enough chapters already available to make Love of Kill Season 2 a reality. English-only manga readers will be able to read the anime ahead of English Love of Kill Volume 8 in June 2022.
