He is assisted by a group called the G-Boys that are run by Makoto’s best partner, Takashi Andou.
Makoto encounters an individual named Hikaru who is hiding from enemies. While hanging with his friends, Makoto becomes interested in Hikaru’s friend Rika as a possible girlfriend. When Rika was found dead, Makoto is beaten by the police during interrogation until other witnesses confirm his character. Makoto initially earns his fame among the police as well as the IWGP underworld after he solves the mystery of the person who strangled Rika until she died in the hotel.
Although Makoto initially tried to target the wrong person but he later learns that an angry Hikaru was behind Rika’s murder. She had made arrangements for Yamai an old friend from Makoto’s past to impersonate the local serial rapper. The incident was far more dramatic than she had anticipated. It was clear that the Ikebukuro West Gate Park 2020 anime completely skipped the original story sequences in the manga. Instead of focusing on the way Makoto got his name the show tends to focus on short stories in which every case resolved in the span of an episode.
As with the books The anime did not shun controversial topics. It explored hot topics such as extreme poverty, immigration or prostitution, as well as restorative justice in a thoughtful way.

IWGP Episodes 11, 12 closed this season by introducing a double-episode story arc in which both the G-Boys along with the Red Angels finally went head-to-head as was promised in the OP. Makoto succeeded in stopping fighting in an arc that everyone was in an era of reflection.
