About in the Land of Leadale

In The Land of Leadale follows a young girl following her death and her reincarnation in the body of her RPG avatar. This premise might be reminiscent of My Next Live as a Villainess: All Routes Lead To Doom. Cayna is the main character and makes a disturbing discovery about the land she finds herself in.

She was still a player but Leadale was a prosperous land. This was ended by her death. The land is now dangerously abandoned by its moderators. Cayna quickly realizes that she’s not the only one who has been isekaied into this fictional land. Some of the malevolent former players are also stuck in Leadale. Cayna tries to restore Leadale to its former glory with her high-level and the help of a variety of allies, including her adopted children.

Is there a second season of In the Land of Leadale planned?

The studio and its creators have yet to announce a Season 2 of In the Land of Leadale. It is not unusual for renewals to be announced within a few weeks of a show’s first run. This means that we may still see some of the isekai series. In the Land of Leadale is only 12 episodes. It has more to offer, but not for long.

The current Leadale manga (and light novel) have four volumes and eight volumes, respectively, as of March 2021. This might be enough content for one season but not enough for the second. Therefore, any Season 2 of the anime will likely be delayed until more source material is available. We will keep this space updated with any news regarding a second season.

Currently, Crunchyroll has the English dub of In The Land of Leadale.

The Land of Leadale manga is a light novel series that’s compared to anime

The anime story is inspired by the In The Land of Leadale light novels series by Ceez and Tenmaso. The book series had reached Volume 8 as of January 28, 2022.

The story started life as an In The Land of Leadale novel, which was self-published on Shousetsuka ni Narou (“Let’s Become a Novelist”) like many other isekai novels. The difference is that while the web novel was completed in December 2012, Enterbrain did not begin publishing the light novel adaptation until January 2019.

This large time gap may have caused the author to greatly expand on the original 69 chapters of the web novel (including the epilogue) and add bonus stories chapters. Ceez explained some changes in the Afterword section for light novel Volumes 1, 2 and 3.

Ceez joined forces with Ryo Suzukaze, writer, and Dashio Takimi in 2019 to serialize the In The Land of Leadale manga at Dengeki PlayStation Comics Web. The manga reached Volume 4 by January 8, 2022.

Some parts of this novelization have been updated, while others are completely new. It was enough to make me shiver. When I see the list of novels on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in a large bookstore, my stomach hurts.

The idea of being reincarnated into a game character was not something I had ever thought of when I first started to write this story. My days were filled of anxiety as I worked with my editor to finalize the novelization. Even now, I am constantly questioning if everything will turn out okay.

Volume 2: I added two characters to this volume that didn’t make it into the Web version. So, I did some rewrites. Even though time was closing in on me, the task of fixing my original manuscript remained. This created a daily cycle that saw my health rapidly decline. After making the change, it was impossible to go back. It was a lot of pain, so I hope Mimily (and Li’l Fairy) grow on me.

Volume 3: I made some edits to the original text seven years ago. I relived many childhood memories, “This part was as this and then that was like …”” My fingers tapped across my keyboard as I added more. This story is a lot more different than what I uploaded to Shousetsuka ni Narou.

North American publisher Yen Press will handle the official In The Land of Leadale English translation. This includes the light novel series as well as the manga. The English books will be limited to Volume 6 by August 23, 2022. By March 22, 2022, the English manga would only have Volume 1.

The 86 anime adaptations have become a popular choice for anime fans. They not only keep the original story true, but also add new content to the story. Faraway Paladin (Faraway Paladin Season 2 confirmed) captured the drama and mystery of the story with only two adaptations.

Although the In The Land of Leadale version was more traditional, it still captured the heartwarming essence of this story. This is a significant improvement on the director’s previous work, particularly the In Another World With My Smartphone anime. (It is fair to say that anime producers often dictate how many books will be adapted per season to studio staff.

The anime In The Land of Leadale adapted the first light novels volume. However, the episode did not include the bonus story. The anime adaptation pace was slightly slower than the manga’s because the book had five chapters, a prologue and an epilogue.

This adaptation pace was good for a book of 224 pages. However, light novel volumes 2, 3 and 4 are respectively 288, 392, 294 and 294 pages, despite having five chapters. The anime would have to cover more ground in order to achieve a satisfactory stopping point within the time limitations of episodic TV.

In the opening scene, for example, the hospital’s emergency generators did start after the power cut, but Keina’s body died within two seconds. Her spirit had fled. While it was confirmed by the books that her body was dead, speculations in the anime were open to interpretation.

In the real world Keina’s death was attributed to having played the game during power outages. The Leadale game was closed only six months after Keina’s death, and only one month notice. Other players were also logged on the last day of service…

Keina’s family is not mentioned in the anime. Her parents were killed in a natural disaster, and her cousin and uncle had taken care of her since she was hospitalized. Keina’s uncle worked as a game developer at Leadale and designed the Kee system for her to aid in the game.

After Episodes 9-12 of the adapted light novel Volume 3, Keina’s happy family was removed, it became a problem. Canyna even skipped a flashback in Volume 3: Chapter 2. Keina’s happiness was destroyed by a freak accident. So when she saw Luka crying at the corpses of her parents, she felt instantly compassionate.

Cayna could empathize with Luka’s pain. Cayna wanted the same for Luka as Keina’s cousin and uncle who helped her after her accident. However, the anime didn’t develop that character so Luka’s adoption was less emotionally powerful.

In the anime’s four first episodes, there were no scenes showing Cayna making water wheels or building public bathhouses. A capsized ship was used to salvage building materials. The potion quest was condensed.

Episode 4 of The Land of Leadale should have featured Mimily, the mermaid. However, that scene was moved to Episode 9. During the caravan ride, there was some romance shipping between Arbiter & Cayna.

Other details are missing, such as Cayna’s ability to hear the flora, explanations about the game, its countries, the Foster System and Collection Points, as well as Cayna’s Skill Masters. Although it’s not an issue, the game stats are completely skipped, since the books were also vague in this regard.

Cayna was able to figure out the level of the demon player at 432 using the levels of summoned golem beasts. The levels of summoned monsters in the game are added together and can not exceed the level the player. Cayna, for example, is a level 1100 Skill master. Therefore, if Cayna summons a level 1000 creature, any other summons will be limited to a cumulative level 100.

Players could summon only nine creatures at a time. Summoning strength must be equal to 12 levels. Summoned creatures could also be based on the elements Earth, Water and Fire. Cayna could summon a Water creature, but it would be weakened by summoning a Fire creature. It was also bad to mix Light and Dark creatures.

Skargo and Mai-Mai were all named after the three snails Keina discovered at the hospital during a rainy afternoon. The Foster System, also known as the NPC Compensation Program, was created because developers were too lazy to name and create all NPCs.

Keina wasn’t emotionally attached to her children and planned to sell her NPC sub-character designs for the Admins. Keina bought the model for Skargo because she was not supposed to be able make male characters.

Skargo, Mai-Mai, and Kartatz are Cayna’s biological children. Mixed races are not possible in the game, as mixed couples can give birth to children that only follow one parent. Skargo asks Cayna about their father at one point. However, since there is no father, Cayna panics, and then lies to Opus by describing the physical characteristics her friend/in-game partner Opus.

Cayna’s ability to get drunk is due to newbies complaining about high-level players being immune to poison. VR-MMO developer responded to complaints that high-level players were susceptible to poisoning and drunkenness by nerving them.

Despite all the cuts, and many more than this article did not mention, the anime adaptation didn’t feel rushed. The writers kept the core of this story intact, much like the Genius Prince’s Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt. They also incorporated the most important elements together so it wasn’t obvious that they were making cuts.

The finale of the first season, Leadale no Daichi Nit Episode 12, was a stoppage that corresponded to Volume 3.

It’s the perfect stopping point, since it introduces Luka and begins to answer the central mystery of this series.

English-only book readers can jump to Volume 4 if they wish to read ahead of the anime.

The manga In The Land of Leadale is unfortunately far behind the light novels as well as the anime. Manga Volume 4’s chapters correspond to the anime episodes 5-6 (or the light novel Volume 2). It will likely be 2024 when the manga finally catches up to the anime.
