Yuukoku no Moriarty Season 2 release date
Production I.G. has not updated their website since the last update. Production I.G. or any other company involved in the production of the anime have not confirmed the Moriarty the Patriot Season 2 release dates. A sequel has not been confirmed (other than Moriarty the Patriot Part 2)
This article will be updated once the news has been confirmed.
It’s possible to speculate as to when or if the Yuukoku no Moriarty Season 2 premiere will take place.
The Japanese will likely love James Moriarty the anti-hero as Sherlock. While streaming revenue has become the main factor in anime’s financial success now, Blu-Ray/DVD sales for the first week are still a sign of anime’s popularity in Japan.
Each Blu-Ray/DVD set of Moriarty the Patriot Bluray/DVD will contain eight volumes. Each volume contains three episodes. The first disc volume will be released on January 27, 2021.
Japan is not buying Blu-Rays, as the Blu-Ray sales are indicative of its popularity. In its first week, the Blu-Ray volume 1 only sold 1,373 copies. Other anime have seen similar sales, but are still being renewed for second seasons. Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear Season 2 was one recent example.
Keep in mind that the second cour might be officially titled Yuukoku no Moriarty season 2. Overlord Season 2 & 3 were released in a similar fashion to the split-cour anime, but they were still considered separate seasons. Some may therefore consider Moriarty the Patriot Season 3 an anime sequel.
The big question is when the Moriarty the Patriot manga’s end will be announced. Faster than the first cour, the second cour also adapted nearly all of those manga chapters by June 2021.
Therefore, even if the manga continues long enough to allow for an anime sequel, it will still take several years until Moriarty the Patriot Season 2 is possible.

Kenji Hamada will voice Braon Cubid. Hirofumi Najima, Atsumi Tanezaki, and Atsumi Takama are two other guest cast members.
OVA 2 is called “Moriarty Family Holidy” (Moriartyke no Kyujitsu). The second OVA adapts manga Chapter 32: The Tea Party.

Is the Moriarty the Patriot manga over? The game is still being played…
The anime’s story is inspired by the Moriarty the Patriot manga series written by Ryosuke Takeuchi with Hikaru Miyoshi as illustrator. The manga series has been serialized in Shueisha’s Jump Square magazine since august 2016, and is now up to Volume 16 as at December 4, 2021.
VIZ Media publishes the official English translation for the Moriarty the Patriot manga series. Volume 6 was released January 4, 2022. Volume 7 was published April 5, 2022. Volume 8 was published July 5, 2022. Volume 8 was published on July 5, 2022. Volume 9 is available October 4, 2022.
Unanswered is the question of how many volumes were published before the Moriarty the Patriot manga ended. We do know that Volume 13 revealed that the Moriarty the Patriot Final Problem story arc had reached its climax in Volume 14.
The climax of Japanese storytelling is almost always near the end, due to the four-act structure called Kishotenketsu.
Ki : IntroductionSho: DevelopmentTen : Twist (complication). Ketsu : Conclusion (reconciliation)
The Twist phase is when the story takes a surprising turn and contains the yama (or climax) of the story. Some manga have multiple climactic moments. This is especially true if the story structure has been divided into sagas.
Chapter 48 ended with The Final Problem (Saigo no Jiken), a story arc that OG Sherlock Holmes fans will know about. Both the anime and manga took a different route, with the Lord of Crime dying and Liam being reborn.
The manga seems to be expanding the Sherlock/Liam story with a new beginning for former Lord of Crime. Manga Chapters 57-64 told The Adventure of the Empty House story.
This story is loosely inspired by The Adventure of the Empty House which Doyle claimed was the sixth most memorable Holmes story. The original Doyle story was written three years after The Final Problem’s events and the death of Sherlock.
This involved the unsolvable case involving the locked-room murder of an honorable man. Dr. Watson still has an interest in crime, and visits the scene of the murder where he meets an elderly deformed man.
Watson falls unconscious when the person pretends to be Sherlock. Sherlock tells Watson that he was faking his death in order to escape Moriarty and that he had traveled the globe for three years. The pair reunited and resumed their crime-solving.
This is one of the 13 stories Doyle published in The Return of Sherlock Holmes. Doyle had to release it after being pressured by the public to bring back the great detective. If the Moriarty the Patriot manga continues to follow the path of Doyle, the manga’s end could still be many chapters off.

Yuukoku no Moriarty manga is compared to the anime
Japanese love Sherlock Holmes character Sir Arthur Conan Doyles. Production I.G. was not surprised to see the Sherlock Holmes character in Episode 1. Production I.G. made sure that Moriarty the Patriot Episode 1, created the right atmosphere for the chase between the consultant detective and the crime consultant… until the mood was ruined by the studio’s choice of ED music!
Although the abrupt change in tone was unexplainable, it was surprising that the entire episode was an original anime story. This was an intelligent move, as it allowed anime to create a dramatic atmosphere and criminal intrigue to draw viewers in, before getting into the backstory about the anti-detective.
Moriarty the Patriot Episode 2, shares the same title with Chapter 1: The Scarlet Eyes. The opening panel of the manga begins with a literal cliffhanger. It flashes forward to Sherlock and Professor James Moriarty, suspended above a certain fateful liquid from The Final Problem. The rest of the manga’s first chapters began slowly, with young William, Albert and Louis Moriarty being introduced as children.
This is quite a tonal shift, since the manga’s opening chapter is lighthearted and then it introduces Albert’s reasons why he hates the nobility in England. As part of the young trio’s first “perfect crime”, tension builds slowly until it reaches a climax.
The opening episode was great. Episodes 2 to 9 followed the same pacing. Episode 9 corresponded to Chapter 9. The anime started to skip whole manga story arcs starting with Episode 10, jumping ahead to Chapters 15, 16 and The Two Detectives.
Chapters 10 and 11 of The Hunting of the Baskervilles, which featured Fred saving children from child-hunters, were skipped by the anime. It also skipped Sebastian Moran’s backstory in Chapters 12-13, 13 and 14 The Man with the Golden Army.
Although the anime simplified the story to the William/Sherlock conflict only, faithful adaptations can only go so far as most scenes are required to keep the plot unified. The manga chapters are long and full of dialogue, which builds the story like a domino.
The second cour saw Moriarty, the Patriot Episode 12, pick up the story with Irene Adler in A Scandal in British Empire, which is the longest story-arc in the manga series (Chapters 17, 17 and 23). The last scene of Episode 11 featured Mycroft Holmes and the British Queen. It is taken straight from Chapter 16’s manga panels.
Problem is, the anime did not establish that Albert James Moriarty was the boss of MI6 or that he knew Mycroft. The anime writers had the characters simply mention relevant facts and move on, but this was detrimental to the overall story’s characterization.
When I first wrote this story, I believed it was “extremely unlikely” that anime writers would adapt the entire story to the Final Problem. It would be foolish to attempt to adapt the manga’s ending, since it would require adapting more than 40 chapters and only 13 episodes.
It was possible that the “anime writers” simply rearranged the timeline so that the first cour could conclude on a high note between Sherlock and William. “Moriarty the Patriot Episodes 19-24 will adapt the two skipped story lines.”
I was wrong. The anime instead adapted The Phantom of Whitechapel with two episodes, The Riot at New Scotland Yard with 1 episode, The Merchant of London arc with 1 and The White Knight of London arcs with 2 episodes.
The anime missed the short The Adventure of the One Student episode. It featured Sherlock and Liam teaming up to solve a mystery at Durham University. They also developed a friendly relationship. Chapter 32: The Tea Party was skipped, and Chapter 39: The Dark Night of London also skipped.
The anime began to rattling on the tracks as the pacing changed. The Sign of Mary, and The Two Criminals became one episode each, despite the fact that they were four chapters in the manga.
The anime then ran off the tracks after the first five chapters of The Final Problem were shortened into Episode 23. Episode 24 was the finale. It then completed the remaining four chapters.
Maybe I am being dramatic in my description of the way the anime adapts the manga. Despite trying to fit so much into two courses, the anime was faithful to the source material. Even though it tried to squeeze so many things into two courses, anime-only viewers enjoyed what was shown.
Problem is, the manga spent more time describing the budding friendship between Sherlock and Liam. All the cutting affected Liam’s relationships with his brothers.
To provide the conclusive ending where Sherlock and Liam live to solve more mysteries, the anime had to change events. It did it in a way that allowed the anime to connect with the manga, if ever a sequel is ever approved for production.
The ending of the finale, Moriarty the Patriot Episode 24 corresponded with manga Chapter 56.
Unfortunately, it will take years for enough chapters to make Moriarty the Patriot Season 2. Worse, it is likely that the English translation will not catch up with the anime until 2023, when the English Volume 15 is released.

Moriarty The Patriot Season 2 anime spoilers (plot summary/synopsis)
Last time that anime viewers watched Moriarty The Patriot, the final dramatic battle was between Sherlock Holmes (the Lord of Crime) and Professor Moriarty. Liam openly admitted to being the Lord of Crime. He went on a killing spree targeting corrupt nobles all around.
Louis and Fred disagreed with Liam’s plan to kill himself. They approached Sherlock to save Liam. The three brothers were eventually separated. Albert took the public blame for the Lord Of Crime, while Louis joined MI6 as a spy for the British crown.
After the Tower Bridge fell, Liam was presumed dead. Watson publishes a book about Liam, describing him as the most evil criminal Sherlock has ever encountered. Watson honors Liam’s wishes. Sherlock tracked Liam to Switzerland in the final scene. This is a reference in Doyle’s The Final Problem ending in a confrontation at Reichenbach Falls in Switzerland.
The meeting took place three months later, but the anime doesn’t reveal how they got there. Also, the manga didn’t show that Liam was alive up until several chapters after Tower Bridge fell.
Sherlock and Liam were both thrown from the Tower Bridge onto the Thames by William H Bonney, aka Bill the Kid. They were saved by the American secret agent William H Bonney.
The Americans were actually watching the chaos in Britain and decided that they would take advantage of it. In exchange for secretly working for the United States, Sherlock and Liam were rescued by the Americans.
Fred Porlock and Jack Renfield attempt to live their lives after the Moriarty brothers have been removed as Lord of Crime. Moran, a sniper, takes Liam’s disappearance very badly and begins assassinating corrupt nobles.
Louis, an MI6 agent investigates the murder. Sherlock unintentionally returns to help. Sherlock is sent by Liam to save Moran.
